Pack 858 Parents

for parents new to scouting

join and stay in cub scouting!

Days 1-30 Of Cub Scouts

Successful cub scouting reflects a partnership between scouts, parents, and leaders.  The first thirty days in scouts can be challenging for new families.

First, decide to join the pack of your choice.  We hope you will join us, but fit is very important!  You can find a list of scout packs at www.beascout.org.

Second, pay your annual dues to Pack 858.  For 2023-2024, the annual dues are $225.00.  You can pay at any event or through zelle at the address: pack858@gmail.com.

Contact us if payment help is needed.

Third, submit your application for your scout here.

Fourth, go to the app store of your choice and download the troopwebhost App.  Pack 858 has all of our event information loaded in this application and you will receive and email with an account setup email.

What Should I Expect After I Join?

There is a monthly set of meetings that will guide our activities.  Each month we will have a Den Meeting (small groups of scouts of the same age), Pack Meeting (all the scouts together), a Committee (parent planning meeting), a hike, and a special event.

After you join, you will hear from either the Cubmaster or Committee Chair to let you know that your application has been approved.  All are welcome.  The application is to get all of your information in our system so we can be sure we can reach you for scouting activities.

After your application is submitted, plan on joining our monthly activities.  Your Den Leader will also get in touch to share when those meetings will be scheduled.

Days 31-60 Of Cub Scouts

First, check in with your Den Leader if you have not heard from him/her.  This volunteer helps keep scouts of the same age on track to complete their annual advancement plan.

Second, purchase a uniform for your scout.  Second-hand is fine and sales can often be found at thrift stores.  Scouts K-3 wear a blue shirt and Scouts in grades 4-5 wear a khaki shirt.

Find every detail about the uniform at this link.  For Pack 858, we only require the official shirt and neckerchief.  Scouts should also wear blue shorts with blue shirts and olive shorts with the khaki shirt.

Third, get your scout account set up with Scoutbook.  This tool helps you understand all scouting advancement requirements and curriculum.

Fourth, consider how you can be involved as well!  We find that involved parents are crucial to help scouts successfully complete their journey.

Days 61 & Over Of Cub Scouts

First, ensure that upcoming events are on your calendar and that your family can attend.  Staying involved early will provide long-lasting relationships for the scouts (and parents).

Second, get involved as an adult.  Come to monthly committee meetings and help the pack decide which events to provide for the pack.  Help at pack meetings and stay engaged.

Third, speak up.  If you have suggestions or ideas for making the pack better, the leadership team wants to know.  Reach out to the Cubmaster or Committee Chair at any time for questions, comments, or concerns.

Fourth, be responsible for your scouts advancement.  Their are limitless opportunities for cub scouts both online and in person, get involved and share your plans with the pack so we can join in the journey.
